Max Manus - Norway's most famous war hero is now honored with a statue on Akershusbrygga in Oslo

Max Manus’s old friend, Gunnar "Kjakan" Sonsteby, unveiled the statue.

The placement of the statue on the Oslo harbor is a tribute to Max Manus, who together with Gunner under the 2. World war, were well known for the sabotage of the German ships in the Oslo harbor.

The statue is created in bronze by the artist Peter Ung.

At the reveling of the statue, the Norwegian defense minister Grete Faremo pronounced: “The statue has as great symbolic value. It is a very nice statue of one of our biggest war heroes and it reminds us, that today’s operations also have their heroes.”
